What Programs Would You Like to DoThis Year?

As the FTE PTA is already engaged in a new school year (SY), we are in the process of determining which programs we are going to conduct. Many times members feel like they don't have a say in determining PTA programs. The FTE PTA is always looking for ways for parents and teachers to get involved. Why not start by providing your creative ideas.

Now is your time to get involved and have a voice. Post your ideas for PTA Programs. In addition, please plan to attend our first Programs Committee Meeting for SY 2010 - 2011 on Monday, September 27th at 6:45 pm.

Our PTA is only as strong as our members:)

Is our school meeting the needs of our special education students?

Part of the PTA's mission is to be a resource for parents. A parent brought to my attention that the needs of her special education student weren't being met. I was especially concerned because she didn't want to be involved in the PTA because of her unpleasant experiences with the school.

At times, we all feel that the needs of our children aren't being met.; however, it's important that we get more involved instead of becoming less involved. It doesn't solve anything when you withdraw. You could use your experiences to help someone else going through the same or similar situation, if you speak up. The only way that the PTA can truly be a resource, is to hear from it's members.

I appreciate the parent that expressed her concerns with the PTA. We would like to hear from others as well. Let us help!

How can the PTA Enhance Your Child's Academic Success?

The FTE PTA is committed to being "An advocate for students, resource for parents, and support for teachers". We want to ensure that we are providing our parents with resources to be advocates as well. Our mission is not to take the place of parents working directly with teachers; however, it is to provide you with the necessary resources to effectively act on behhalf of your children. In every way, the FTE PTA will assist you in making sure that EVERY child reaches his or her potential.

In addition, we are here to provide support to our teachers. Without you, our children cannot reach their potential. It is essential that we support you, and facilitate effective partnerships between you and parents. We all have one common goal, and that's to provide the best environmennt for our children to achieve high academic success. I'm challenging every parent and teacher to work together to make that happen!

Should the Francis T. Evans PTA Continue to Exist?

I'm not sure that it should continue to exist because there is a lack of family involvement and commitment. It defeats the purpose of having a PTA, if you don't have people who consider it important enough to come to committee meetings in order to provide meaningful programs, events, and activities that enrich the academic lives of our children.

It's unfair to those few who do consider the PTA as important, make inovolvement a priority, and take time out of their busy schedules to do the work that needs to be done. I'd like to hear what others think. I'd be surprised if enough people will visit the site or reply to be able to know the general consensus.
